Group Reading of Anthony Trollope
The Trollope reading list was founded by Elizabeth Thomsen in January, 1994. We are the largest and most active group devoted to the literature of Victorian author Anthony Trollope. We read Trollope's work in weekly segments and engage in specific discussion of the readings. We also discuss related aspects of Victorian life and culture. Any matter relating to Anthony Trollope is sure to be of interest to our group. List members are from many countries and represent a variety of engagements with Trollope's work ranging from the casual to the academic. The stimulation of our list derives from the interplay of these diverse points of view. Everyone is welcome to comment and to interact. Our list is unmoderated and is open to everyone's participation. All we ask is that list members engage in the discussion with the same civility and greatness of spirit that Anthony Trollope expressed in his writing. The Trollope list is a cooperative effort by its members, so please feel free to offer comments and suggestions on any aspect of list administration.

As a subgroup to the Trollope reading group, we read non-Trollope fiction. While not necessarily being informed by Trollope’s works, we enjoy compare/contrast observations between Trollope and our various authors. We have read Margaret Oliphant’s Carlingford Series. Past novels included the oeuvres of Barbara Pym and Elizabeth Gaskell and select books of Anita Brookner, George Eliot, George Gissing, and Herman Wouk. We are currently reading Joseph Conrad's The Secret Agent and will follow with John Le Carre's Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy.
